DVHS PTSA AT WORK - WHAT YOUR MEMBERSHIP SUPPORTS

Your PTSA Membership allowed us to support these important programs:​​​​​​​
 
  • Communications: Connect and engage parents, students, teachers and staff by providing a DVHS-comprehensive source of relevant news, deadlines and information through publication of a school-wide e-newsletter and social media updates (e.g., Facebook and Twitter).
  • DVHS Departmental Presentations: Host Principal’s updates, in addition to presentations to showcase programs, inform parents and answer questions, typically at PTSA meetings.
  • Family Engagement/Parent Education: Host presentations, film screenings, expert panels and workshops on relevant topics of interest to our community.
  • Health, Safety and Wellness: Coordinate with DVHS Admin, Staff and Leadership to prioritize information and activities that contribute to student health, safety and wellness. Programs and initiatives, including hosting student education workshops to foster a positive campus climate, advocating with and for students to promote health, safety and wellness, supporting student wellness awareness, including creating a crisis center sticker visible to students, and providing funding that supports a healthy and safe campus, including funding picnic tables for students to have a comfortable place to eat and engage with each other.
  • Hospitality: Coordinate potluck and/or catered meals and snacks for teachers and staff (e.g., welcome back breakfast/lunch, thanksgiving, winter holiday, multicultural, etc.), to recognize the hard work and contribution of our teachers and staff and particularly designed to celebrate our multicultural diversity through nourishing meals;
  • Inclusion and Diversity: Coordinate with DVHS Admin, Staff and Leadership to provide a welcoming and inclusive school community, reflective of our diversity. Partner to retain Anti-Defamation League's "No Place for Hate" Designation.
  • Legislative Advocacy: Coordinate site-level advocacy efforts as led by the California PTA (or 32nd District or SRV Council of PTAs) to influence, within PTA guidelines, federal, state and local policy makers to pass laws and grant funding which will provide for the improvement and betterment of our public schools in curriculum, facilities, safety, privacy and school funding; encourage high school student voter registration.
  • Red Ribbon Week: Coordinate activities and information around drug prevention and education and empower students in making healthy choices.
  • Reflections Arts Program*: Encourage students to explore their own thoughts, feelings, ideas and develop artistic literacy, express themselves through art, increase confidence and find a love for learning through participation in this National PTA Arts Program.
  • Senior Scholarships*: Award scholarships to graduating seniors, particularly for those who demonstrate leadership, commitment and hard work.
  • Sister School Program: Coordinate drives to support our partner school in Oakland.
  • Student Education: Host opportunities to support and contribute to health, wellness, safety and a positive campus climate.
  • Teacher Grants*: Award grants upon application by teachers and staff to support curriculum and meet the needs of students, as identified by teachers and staff.

DVHS PTSA is proud of its inclusion of and partnership with students in spearheading new initiatives (e.g., wellness committee), coordinating community service (e.g., sister school drives), improving school climate (e.g., Words Matter Week, Wall of Kindness) and so much more! *To apply for scholarships, grants or participate in national/state PTA activities, such as the Reflections Art program, you must be a PTA member by the time of application.
 
WHAT PTA/PTSA DOES:
On a state and local level, working together, PTA/PTSA promotes the welfare of children and youth in home, school, community, and place of worship; raise the standards of home life; secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth; bring into closer relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth; and develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social and spiritual education.
